Spokane

Spokanistan (Spokane)

Spokane has many names some of which are Spokomptin and Spokanistan. It's known for being kinda sketchy, but I don't know that its any worse than any other place lol. I grew up there so on our way back from the trip we stopped to hang out with my family. While we were there we were able to climb on some cool boulders in Tum Tum--just northwest of Spokane. The rock is a crappyer version of Leavenworth but some good lines none the less. The boulders are quite fun to climb on and there is a good amount of developing that needs to be done around the Spokane area. The local climbers, our friend Nick in particular, has been putting in serious work in the last few months developing the Tum Tum area. We were only able to get out 2 days and Nick was kind enough to show us around. Ben climbed pretty hard in these two days. I didn't climb basically anything. I got on this cool V5 called Pipedream but was unable to finish it due to fingers pain.
Smoking Monkey V11
Ben put  down both Wrecking Ball V10 and Smoking Monkey V11 which was originally rumored to be V13. Smoking Monkey comes out this dihedral/corner on some crimps to a somewhat big move to the lip. Ben took that down in under an hour.  We went back the next day to look for this old Johnny G. test piece called Mythical Beast V12. It sits at the top of this steep hill and looks out over the lake (I don't know the name). It is actually kinda difficult to find if you don't know where you are going.

Once we finally found it, Ben went to work. He did the moves pretty quickly but the top out was not clean at all. It was covered with pine needles and dirt. Ben was still able to do the top out...a little sketchy if you ask me...and began trying it from the beginning. Mythical Beast comes out this super cool prowl using a mixture of slopers and incut holds that face the wrong way. The setting, being able to look out over that lake, is also what makes it an awesome boulder. He sent this awesome line a couple goes later even with that super dirty top out. We then went to get send footage of Smoking Monkey just as it started to get dark.
Mythical Beast V12
We got the footage pretty quick ended the day by checking out some other sick looking lines in the area and headed back to my parents house once it got dark. It was a short trip but we hope to return to try some of the new lines that have been going up around the area. Thanks Nick for showing us around!

Really cool prowl
